Wildlife - Buyers Guide

Supporting Birds in Our Gardens

Over the years small songbirds have become fewer and fewer. Winters are especially tough for them, which is why we encourage everyone to help — by providing food, water, and safe nesting places in their gardens. Simple actions, like leaving out sunflower seeds, fresh water for drinking and bathing, or planting native species, can make a real difference.

We are also fascinated by owls — especially the Tawny owl. These remarkable birds are not only beautiful guests in our landscapes but also natural pest controllers. Did you know that a pair of Tawny owls can catch more than 2,000 rodents in a single winter and spring while raising their chicks? That’s a huge impact — and one that keeps your kitchen a little safer from unwanted visitors.

Creating Havens for Wildlife

Unfortunately, birds face growing threats: habitat loss, pollution, pesticides, and reduced access to food and nesting sites. At Mercygates, we believe our gardens can become small but powerful sanctuaries. By installing nesting boxes, avoiding harmful chemicals, planting for biodiversity, and discouraging predators like cats, each of us can contribute to giving birds a safe place to thrive.

Responsibility Rooted in Design

Our love of wildlife is also reflected in our products. Just as we choose local wood over tropical hardwood to protect the rainforests, we design with both durability and nature in mind. Our furniture is made to last, to minimize waste, and to harmonize with the environment around it. For us, sustainability isn’t a buzzword — it’s a way of living that honors the beauty and balance of the natural world.

At Mercygates, we believe that supporting wildlife and crafting with care are part of the same story: a story about respect, responsibility, and joy in nature.
